Moses Alake Adeyemo, a former deputy governor in Oyo State, has emerged as the new Oyo State APC chairman, defying warnings from Okeogun stakeholders under the association Egbe Ajosepo fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo wa, who have long been advocating for the zone to produce a state governor for the first time.

During the period leading up to the congress, the association held a press briefing and staged a protest during the adhoc committee set-up, arguing that once the party chairmanship goes to Okeogun, the zone’s chances of producing the next governor would be slim. The group, which has tirelessly worked to boost Okeogun’s political influence, emphasized that strategic leadership positions are crucial for the zone’s gubernatorial ambitions.

Despite these warnings, the APC state congress, held at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, went ahead on the 3rd of March, 2026, and Alake was formally appointed chairman. Some APC stakeholders, however, insisted that the chairmanship being zoned to Okeogun does not prevent the zone from producing a governor, noting that political opportunities remain open.
